Due to the impacts of the coronavirus outbreak, several of the leading credit card issuers have announced they will extend the deadline for EMV compliance at the gas pump, or automated fuel dispenser (AFD) to April 17th, 2021. On May 1st Visa was the first to announce the extension. On May 6th and May 13th respectively, American Express and Discover announced they would follow suit.
Many retailers started the process of deploying EMV to the forecourt before the coronavirus outbreak and are using this time to increase their speed of deployment to avoid possible fraud chargebacks and to ensure customer card data is secure. This push has been stimulated by Major Oil Companies offering incentives for retailers to implement the outdoor EMV. Current MOC brands have special pricing programs that expire in October which may not be extended. With this in mind, Guardian is urging our clients to continue site surveys and equipment ordering now to ensure the best pricing and adequate time for installation and EMV deployment before the last-minute rush.
We also encourage our clients to ask us about Guardian-Connect, a proprietary remote connectivity and equipment monitoring solution that enables a faster, more cost-effective deployment of EMV software at customer locations. Guardian-Connect also provides continuous equipment performance monitoring and an array of remote diagnostics and maintenance capabilities for clients fueling equipment, which reduces repair times and reduces maintenance spend for ongoing fueling operations.
